Tottenham Marshes

Tottenham marshes. Additional flood channels were created to ease flooding. Initially it was surrounded by marshland and forest with smaller waterways scything through to join the river lea. Humans have been making their mark on tottenham marshes from the mid 19th century but since lee valley regional park authority took over management of the area in 1972 nature has been given top priority. Established as marsh custodians in 2005 the friends of tottenham marshes fotm are a group of local people committed to promoting the marshes as a valuable and enjoyable green space for the whole community and to protecting the wildlife that lives there.
As humans began to develop the land the marsh and forest gave way to agriculture and meadows. The marsh is made up of three main areas. The river lea flows between wild marsh west and east. The tottenham marshes are located at tottenham in the london borough of haringeythe marshes cover over 100 acres 040 km 2 and became part of the lee valley park in 1972.
The whole regional park is 26 glorious miles long and stretches from ware in. The marsh has three main areas.
